Since its founding in 1947, the Brazilian Institute of Economy (IBRE) of the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV) has been monitoring prices throughout Brazil to construct price indexes and assess reference prices.

Price Index (IGP) is the most comprehensive indicator of price movements in Brazil.
Sectoral Indexes
Sectoral Indexes measure specific costs of certain activities or projects. IBRE/FGV develops indexes related to price variations within segments and any basket of costs indicated by the client.

The purpose of Reference Price Research is to speed up the process of buying materials and services; it is most often used by public agencies.
Agricultural Price Indicators
IBRE/FGV makes three types of price surveys in the agricultural sector nationally; these cover 37 products, 19 inputs, 5 types of land-related transactions, and 5 types of services.
