Consumer Price Index - Third Age

The Consumer Price Index for the Third Age (CPI-3a) measures the variation in cost of living for families composed mostly of individuals over 60 years of age.

This version of the FGV/CPI was developed based on the Family Budget Survey (FBS) carried out by FGV IBRE in 2002/2003 analyzing the budgets of families composed mostly of individuals over 60 years of age. This version of the FGV/CPI enables observation of how variations in a basket of products and services relevant to families with elderly members affects the cost of living of Brazilians in the third age.

Main Uses:
In addition to measuring the evolution of the cost of living for families with individuals over 60 years of age, the CPI-3a serves as a reference for the execution of public policies in the areas of health and welfare.

Geographic Coverage:
Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Salvador.

Sector Coverage:
Food, Housing, Clothing, Health and Personal Care, Education, Reading and Recreation, Transport, and Miscellaneous Costs.

Collection Period:
Researched between the 1st and the last day of the reference month.

Frequency:
Quarterly.
