The Consumer Price Index for the Third Age (CPI-3a) measures the variation in cost of living for families composed mostly of individuals over 60 years of age.
This version of the FGV/CPI was developed based on the Family Budget Survey (FBS) carried out by FGV IBRE in 2002/2003 analyzing the budgets of families composed mostly of individuals over 60 years of age. This version of the FGV/CPI enables observation of how variations in a basket of products and services relevant to families with elderly members affects the cost of living of Brazilians in the third age.
In addition to measuring the evolution of the cost of living for families with individuals over 60 years of age, the CPI-3a serves as a reference for the execution of public policies in the areas of health and welfare.
