The Services Sector Survey was the first national cyclical survey to systematically collect information on this sector, which accounts for over 63% of Brazilian GDP (2016).
The set of monthly results provides information on short-term trends and the general outlook of companies in the sector, which are relevant indicators in the guidance of corporate and economic policy decision making.
The Services Survey questionnaire is aimed at companies and covers such topics as the business situation, the volume of demand, turnover, prices, and workforce.
The Services Confidence Index (SCI) is the synthesis index of the survey and is composed of four aspects: Current Volume of Demand, Current Business Situation, and expectations on the Volume of Demand (three months) and Business Situation (six months).
Sector coverage of the survey is similar to that of IBGE’s Annual Services Survey (ASS) covering all service sectors except government, the health sector, a part of education activities, the financial sector, and trade (covered in another FGV IBRE Survey). The results are released to the Services Sector as a whole, to 17 segments, and two special outputs.
