The purpose of the Public Sector Economics Department of the Brazilian Institute of Economics (FGV/IBRE) is to expand and disseminate economic knowledge about issues related to public finance.
Among the most important areas of research within the department are studies related to:
• The public budget
• The fiscal scenario, which includes:
→ Federal revenue
→ Nonfinancial public spending
→ Gross and net debt of the public sector
→ Public sector funding needs
• The fiscal responsibility law
• The impact of the public sector on aggregate demand
• Brazilian fiscal federalism.
Besides these activities, the department also designs and executes studies in related areas in partnership with researchers from FGV/IBRE and associated academic centers of excellence and solid performance.
